I got mom’s attention again tonight and told her in no uncertain barks that she needs to let me start barking in my blark again … it’s been MONTHS … and that’s not in doggie time either, that’s in real human time so you can imagine how long it’s been for me in doggie time!

I’ve got lots of news to tell everybody about the things I did last summer and how much fun I had chasing those silly squirrels! Not it’s cold and snowy again and I don’t even like going outside. I went today to do my business and my little feet and tummy got so cold I could hardly get back in the house! Mom picked me up and wrapped me in a blanky until I was warm again. I HATE the snow and cold!

Last summer Mattie and me and our human sister Dede and mom went on our first road trip!  It was very exciting and mom said she couldn’t believe Mattie and me are such good little travelers! Actually the driving part was not exciting, it was just long. We went all the way to another state, I think mom said it’s called North Dakota and we went all the way to Bismarck! Mom stopped a couple of times along the way so Mattie and I could jump out of our crates and do our business and she would offer us a little water, and then we’d jump back in the crates and we’d start driving again. When we got to Bismarck we stayed at mom’s sister’s house and she has a nice big back yard that’s completely fenced so we didn’t have to be on leashes when we were outside! That was so cool! I really almost caught a silly squirrel the next morning because I wasn’t on that stooopid leash but that silly squirrel was still faster than I was and it ran right up a tree in front of me! I was always sure that I’d be able to catch a silly squirrel if I was free but those silly squirrels are a lot faster than I ever imagined! We only stayed in Bismarck for two nights and then we started home again … I was happy to be going home because I luv my home with Mattie and mom. But then mom stopped in a town called Jamestown and we met a lady there with a dog! He looked a little bit like my boyfriend Scooby Doo but he was a little taller and didn’t have so much black color. I couldn’t believe it when mom and Dede put him in the car with us! They told Mattie and me that his name was Boo Boo and he was going to have a new home in Minnesota because his mom in North Dakota didn’t want him anymore. Boo Boo told me that he is 10 years old and he’d been living with his North Dakota mom since he was a pup. I couldn’t understand why she would send him away … but Boo Boo said that last year around Christmas time his mom had given him to a shelter and he had been there about 2 months waiting for someone to adopt him. One day in February his mom had come back in to the shelter and saw that Boo Boo was still there. I guess she felt bad then for giving him away because she took him back! Boo Boo said that he was so sad about being given away that his face had turned so gray that his mom hardly even recognized him! So he lived with him mom again for awhile and then she decided to give him away again and my human sister Dede had just happened to see a picture of him and sent it to my mom. My mom has a coworker who was looking for a little dog, so she said she would take Boo Boo. So that’s why Boo Boo ended up in the car with us. When we got home, Boo Boo stayed with us for two nights and then went to his new home. Mom says Boo Boo has a very nice home with a mom who takes him to to vet when he needs to go, gets his nails trimmed every month, and buys him all kinds of new clothes for the winter. I’m glad Boo Boo has a nice home because I didn’t want him to stay with us … he tried to play with my toys and I can’t have that happening! EVER! BOL!!!  Boo Boo’s psycho North Dakota mom then changed her mind again and wanted him back! She was going to come all the way to Minnesota to get him even though she had no idea where he is. Mom said she told Dede that Boo Boo is very happy where he is and has a much better life now that he’s living with people who really love him so there’s no way that psycho lady is getting Boo Boo back just to give him away again in a few months!!

Hey, guess what … I haven’t barked in my blark for so long, I’m already getting tired! I need a little chicken stick for a bedtime snack now and then I’m going to tell mom it’s time for bed. (Yes, I’m still in control of this household and that’s just the way it’s always going to be!)

Happy New Year to all my friends and MY resolution is to make mom help me bark in my blark more often! Ok, chicken stick, ready or not, here I come!!!

 |  Category: barks  |  Tags: , , ,  | 3 Comments

This is going to be a BRRRRR bark … my tummy just got cold from being so close to the cold ground when I was outside. I don’t like cold! There’s no silly squirrels or silly rabbits to chase and I just know I would have caught one today if I had seen one! I’m pretty sure I’ll catch one tomorrow if we get to go outside … I’m just going to lay on mom’s bed all day tomorrow while she’s at that “icky job” and plan how to catch a silly squirrel.

Mattie and I were so happy this weekend that we didn’t have to help clean the house! Mom was just being silly when she said that she was going to tie little rags to our little feet and we were going to have to dust the floor. We took a lot of walks on Friday and Saturday but it was so cold and rainy today that we stayed inside all day … I wish I could have taken a little walk but I don’t like getting wet so I guess it’s okay that we stayed in the house. Mom was watching a bunch of big horse races on tv this weekend … she said it was Breeders’ Cup weekend which I guess is like the Super Bowl or World Series of horse racing. She was surprised that some silly horse named “Curlin” didn’t win his race but then she decided that since all the horses still had all their legs and they were all still breathing, it was still a good weekend of racing.

Mom told me about a special book Mutchy made about Lola. She said it’s really a nice little book all full of lots of pictures of Lola. I asked mom why she hasn’t made a nice book like that about me and she promised me that she’ll do that soon. I hope she does because I don’t ever want to think that Mutchy loves Lola more than mom loves me! That just could never be true! After all, I rescued mom when I found her and decided that I was going to live with her forever … and even though she didn’t realize it as quickly as I did, I know she loves me a lot now! I’m going to make sure that mom really does make a nice little book about me … since I’m in charge of the house, I know just how to make mom do what I want!

Right now, I’m going to make her give me a chicken stick … bark at ya later!

When we woke up this morning it was sort of cold in the house. It felt almost like it was winter already although mom says it’s not. Mom had put an extra blanket on the bed last night so we were really really warm all night and when that pesky alarm clock rang and we stuck our little heads out, it felt real cold. We don’t like cold.

Mom got up and turned some little round thing on the wall and pretty soon it started to feel warmer in the house so that was good.  Mattie and I went outside to go potty and hurried right back in the house! Then we ran up the stairs as fast as we could to get back into bed before mom got up there to ruin our blanket burrowing. We didn’t want to lay on top of the bed all day, we wanted to be under the covers so we would be warm and not cold!

Mom asked us if we wanted a little lunch before she went to that “icky job” and Mattie, as usual, jumped up and went downstairs to eat. I just stayed in bed, under the covers, and decided I wasn’t going to take any chances on mom going back upstairs while we were eating and fixing the blankets so we couldn’t crawl under them! I knew mom would give me a chicken stick before she left anyway so I wouldn’t get too hungry!

When mom got home, we went for a nice little walk. It’s really fun to zoom around in the leaves and track those silly squirrels and silly rabbits. I think there might have even been a silly fox in the field where we walk because I smelled some smells that weren’t from a silly squirrel or a silly rabbit. I wish I could have seen that silly fox! I know I would have been able to catch him and tear him apart!

Mom told me some sad news today. She said that Mutchy asked Lola if Lola wanted to do a blog bark and Lola said no! I couldn’t even believe my long ears. Why wouldn’t she want to have a blog bark like I do? We could have had so much fun doing our barks. I’m very very disappointed. Actually I think that Mutchy just doesn’t want to take the time to help Lola with her blog bark so I’m just going to blame Mutchy! I know it’s all her fault because Doxies love attention and they love blog barks! I’m SO glad my mom loves me more than Mutchy loves Lola.

I’m just going to drown my sorrows in a chicken stick. I’ll try to bark again soon when I get my spirits up again!

19 Oct 2008 Sunday Bark
 |  Category: barks  |  Tags: , , ,  | 4 Comments

I just jumped up on mom’s lap and sort of snuggled under my blanket so I can be all toasty warm and be close enough to tell her what I want to say on my Sunday blog bark.

It was a very nice weekend for Mattie and me. We got to go outside lots of times and run through the leaves. There was a silly squirrel sitting in the leaves this morning and when it saw us, it ran up the tree, but then it ran right down again! I was running and running but mom always has that pesky harness and leash on me so it’s like I’m running in slow motion and I just couldn’t get to the tree in time! The silly squirrel ran across the leaves and under the fence so we couldn’t get him! Mattie and I barked like crazy but the silly squirrel stayed on the other side of the fence so we didn’t get to catch a silly squirrel this weekend either. I was so sure that we’d get one!

Mom went to some place she called “Trader Joe’s” yesterday — of course we didn’t get to go along and had to stay home in jail — but we got a chicken stick before she left!  When mom came home, she’d brought us a treat from Trader Joe’s. It’s a beef flavored stick sort of like chicken sticks but softer and at first I didn’t think I liked it but then I saw Mattie eating hers and when she was done, she looked like she wanted to take mine too so I ate it in a hurry! I decided I did like it but it’s still not as good as a chicken stick.

So that was our weekend. I know mom has to go that “icky job” again tomorrow and Mattie and I will have to stay in jail all day. Actually jail isn’t as bad as it sounds because we just stay in mom’s bedroom all day and we sleep in mom’s bed. We’ve figured out that after mom lets us in from our morning walk and we run up the steps as fast as we can and jump on the bed, then mom doesn’t make her bed and we can snuggle under the covers whenever we want. If we don’t get up there fast enough, mom makes the bed and then I have to crawl under the pillows to sleep. Mattie crawls under a little blanket mom leaves there for her … and that’s ok too but we really like to burrow under ALL the blankets!

I hope all my friends have a great week. Check out my friend Mackenzie’s blog too. The link to her blog is on the upper left side of this page. It’s fun to have friends that have blogs! I hope Mutchy lets Lola have a blog. I’m pretty sure she will because she loves Lola just like mom loves me and Mutchy will want Lola to have fun with her blog bark too!

Chicken stick time! I’m outta here!

16 Oct 2008 Apology Bark

Mom came home tonight and told me that I’ve been very lazy … I haven’t barked in my blog for three days … that’s 21 days in dog time so it’s a very long time. I need to apologize (and can you even imagine a Doxie apologizing for anything … ever?) for not keeping up-to-date on my blog bark. Mom said she’s going to take it down if I don’t want to bark in it anymore so I’m going to try to do better. She even said that one of her coworkers, Mutchy, was distraught that I’d hadn’t barked lately. I’m sorry, Mutchy. I remember that day when mom brought me up to the office and you were so nice to me and held me for awhile … so, Mutchy, this bark’s for you!

This week has gone by very quickly and when I was in the mood to bark, then mom was doing something else on the computer or doing her own blog on www.happilyunbridled.com. Mom was sad that Big Brown who won the Kentucky Derby in May and was going to run in the biggest horse race in the US on October 25, hurt his foot so he’s been retired and will not race anymore. So I’m thinkin’ it’s really mom’s fault that I didn’t bark in this blog. Yes, that’s it. That’s the reason. It’s all her fault. (I used Hurley’s logic to come to that last conclusion.)

Mattie, Pouncer, and I had a very nice quiet week. We’ve still been going out for nice little walks at night and since mom will be home tomorrow, we’ll probably get to go for two or even three walks. The silly squirrels and silly rabbits are running around like crazy and I just know I’m going to catch one sometime this weekend! Mom’s telling us about a nice big park that she’s going to take us to next spring and summer and I can’t wait. Mutchy is going to be there with her little wiener, Lola, and I know we’ll all be good friends!

Well, now that I’ve barked again, I think mom will even give me an extra chicken stick. She said I wouldn’t get one until I told her what I wanted to bark about but I think this is a nice bark for my blog tonight and if I promise to bark (just on my blog bark though, sometimes mom tells me to be quiet when I bark too much in real life) more often. I’m pretty sure I’ll get a chicken stick now and another one when I go to bed! I know just how to get mom to do what I want … it’s good to be in charge of the house!

Ok, Mutchy, I hope you enjoyed this bark in your honor. I’ll bark again soon!

08 Sep 2008 Hello Fellow Dogs and Their People
 |  Category: barks  |  Tags:  | 3 Comments

Hello to my (soon to be) devoted fans! My name is Kismet. I’m a Miniature Dachshund and I’ve just started this blog bark and I hope I make many more friends. Everyone who meets me loves me instantly so I don’t think it will be hard to create a large, loyal following.

Since I come from a German heritage, I’m very industrious and hard-working. Well, maybe not so much hard-working. But I am very industrious when it comes to tracking and treeing squirrels. I haven’t been able to catch one yet since my mom keeps me on a leash which I find very frustrating and one of these days, I’m going to get away and run after one of those silly squirrels and catch it and tear it apart! I’m also going to catch a rabbit, a mouse, a rat, a bird, a muskrat, a fly, a bee, … I’m not going to catch another wasp though. I caught one once and it stung my mouth which I thought was very unsporting. I sometimes think I’d like to catch a cat too but since my mom has a cat, Pouncer, (she calls her my cousin which I think is really stupid since we don’t look one bit alike), I am tolerating the cat citizens in the community.

I have a sister, Mattie, who I’ll tell you about some other time. I like Mattie a little bit but she’s not a Doxie like me so naturally she’s not as marvelous as I am. Actually she’s my step sister and mom adopted her after I was already here so mom had to ask my permission. I was in a good mood that night so I said it was okay if Mattie lived with us and it’s actually sort of nice to have someone to spend time with on those days when mom has to go the “icky job” as she says when she leaves us in the mornings. (I don’t really know what “icky job” means but I know when mom says it that we’re going to be alone for a long time. Mom used to say that she was going to “work” but that sounded so much like “walk” that I would sometimes get very excited. “Icky job” doesn’t sound like anything that I recognize as fun so that’s what she says now whenever she has to leave the house and leave us alone.  Mom is gone about 11 hours a day … but in dog time that’s 77 hours so it’s almost an eternity until she comes home again at night.)

Okay, that’s it for my first blog bark. You can read more about me on the “About” page. I’ll have my mom do another blog bark sometime soon … right now, I need a chicken stick.
