22 Feb 2009 Weekend Ends
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , , ,  | One Comment

I feel so sad that this weekend is already over and mom says she’s getting herself mentally prepared to go to that icky job tomorrow. I like it best when mom just stays home with us all day! We didn’t even get to go outside at all … it was so cold and it snowed so we just had to stay in the house all the time. Mom looked out the window at night when it was snowing and she said it was “snowing like rain.” I don’t know what that means but I was really glad that I could just snuggle under the covers with Mattie and mom and stay warm.

Mom said I should tell my loyal fans (and I know I have a lot of them!) to check out the badge on the top left side of my blark … it’s a badge with a little video and a link to a rescue organization called “A Place To Bark.” This amazing lady from Tennessee is rescuing all kinds of dogs and cats from high-kill shelters and taking care of them until they can go to new homes.  Mom let me watch the video with her and I just about went crazy when I heard all the dogs barking and I could SEE them on the screen but I couldn’t get to them! I kept jumping at the screen and then running around to look behind the computer because I knew those noisy dogs were in the house somewhere, but I could never find them! But I was SO impressed with the video and the help these dogs are getting … you see, I was lost one time too for about a week and I didn’t have anyone to love me and take care of me so I know how sad those dogs and cats were before they were rescued.  I was really lucky that I was able to find and rescue my mom so now I’m always happy and warm and have lots to eat (including chicken sticks!), and I have my step sister Matter and my alleged cousin Pouncer. Some of the pups and kitties at A Place To Bark came from very abusive situations but they all love their new home and they especially love the kind lady who saved them just like I love my mom! There’s even a link so you can send a donation to A Place To Bark if you want to help.

Mom also showed me Lola’s new picture on her blog. Mom says Mutchy took the picture herself and when I saw it I was SO jealous! It’s a lovely picture and I’m sure Lola is so proud of how beautiful she looks. I don’t know why mom doesn’t take pictures of me more often … I can see her camera right now … just sitting on the table beside the couch all ready to go but no pictures being taken, wassup wit dat?? … I’m gonna tell mom that the next time I bark in my blark, she better have a new picture of me! If she doesn’t, I’m going to tell Lola to have Mutchy come and take pictures of me! That’ll teach that lazy mom!

I hope mom’s not so lazy that she forgets our chicken sticks tonight … but I’m not really too worried. Ever since Mattie came to live with us, she’s made it HER job to make sure mom remembers to bring chicken sticks up to bed. While I go up to bed and crawl under the covers, Mattie keeps an eye on mom and follows her around to make sure she doesn’t start up those steps without chicken sticks in hand!  Mattie likes having that job, it makes her feel good that she can do something to help the chicken stick cause, and she really likes it that mom always tells her “thank you” for reminding her to bring them.

Have a great week everyone! Hope you all have your own version of chicken sticks in your life … everyone should be as happy and Mattie and I are when we get those special treats!

16 Feb 2009 “Pets Are Talking”
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: ,  | 3 Comments

Hey everybody, mom asked me to tell you about this wonderful lady she knows through Twitter named Bridget.  Mom had sent a picture of me to Bridget and she got two digital portraits of me back! I was definitely a proud Doxie that day! I asked mom to take pictures of the portraits so I could put them in my blark … of course the actual portraits look a lot better than the pictures but this gives you an idea how wondermus they are. Mom and I LUV them! Mom is going to get extra special frames and hang them right up in our actual house so everyone can see how extra special I am.  Mom says Bridget has a very special gift because she’s able to talk to animals in a special language and help them with their problems and help their moms and dads understand them better too. That sounds like something every pet mom or dad should do. I know there are times when I wish mom would understand me instantly! When I want an extra chicken stick it sometimes takes two or even three of my “special” barks to make her pay attention to me … I can’t even believe that mom isn’t always listening to me right away when I have something to say.

You can read about “Pets Are Talking” by clicking on the link on this page; be sure to read about some of the animals with which Bridget has communicated. Mom read the one to me about Icky the cat and I was so amazed I couldn’t even believe my long ears. I think mom should take some of those lessons from Bridget so she could communicate with Mattie, Pouncer, and me ALL the time instead of just part of the time. Mom also has that spooky Arab mare named Allee that she really needs to communicate with … and mom’s daughter, my human sister Dede, has a horse named Pistol that was abused for a long time before he came to live with Dede and I’m sure Pistol has lots of things that he could tell Dede about his life and what he needs to feel safe and to trust people. So I think Bridget should just come to Minnesota and she could spend a lot of time talking to us and Allee and Pistol and all Dede’s other horses and dogs … that could almost be a full time job!

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my beautiful portraits and reading about mom’s friend Bridget. I’m so happy with my portraits that I don’t know if I’ll even need a chicken stick tonight  … I’m about as happy as I can be right now!  PSYCHE!!!!  i’m just kidding!!!!!  I ALWAYS need my chicken sticks and mom just better not forget it or I’ll tell Bridget about her!  ROFBMAO!!

07 Feb 2009 Silly Squirrels Are ALIVE
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , ,  | 3 Comments

I’m just SO excited today! I’ve seen LOTS of silly squirrels running around again! I can’t wait until it gets warm enough so we can go for walks and I can catch a silly squirrel and tear it apart! Mom showed me the first two squirrels this morning … they were just sitting on the patio fence as pretty as you please and didn’t even know I was just a few feet away in the house watching them!  Mom and I were sitting on the couch together and when mom saw them, she said to me, “Look, squirrels!”. She pointed out the patio window, and being the smart Doxie I am, I looked out the window to where she was pointing … and there they were! I jumped off the couch and ran to the window and Mattie followed me and we were barking at the silly squirrels. Then mom let us out of the house and we raced through the snow barking and growling but the silly squirrels jumped off the fence and ran away! They are such cowards! I can’t believe they won’t stand and fight! I know I’m going to catch a silly squirrel this summer and tear it apart and I can’t wait!

Mom is letting me bark in my blark while she’s watching a really stupid movie. I think she said it’s called One Missed Call and mom says it’s a lot more stupid than she ever imagined it would be. She said she wished she could record it to a DVD and give it to Mutchy so Mutchy could enjoy it too!  I think she’s just teasing me about Mutchy enjoying it … she’s told me that Mutchy sometimes thinks clowns will eat her when she goes to sleep so this movie would not be a good movie for Mutchy to watch! She would have nightmares for sure and would never ever sleep again!

Mom’s going to have to give me extra chicken sticks tonight  because this movie is even too scary for her and she’s going to want me to sleep really really close to her to protect her and keep her from having bad dreams. So I’ll do that but it’s gonna cost her … I think I’ll get at least THREE extra chickens sticks … and if the movie gets any more scary, I’ll get FOUR! I love movies that scare mom! I gotta go protect her right now because the movie is becoming more frightening by the second! I’m gonna get FIVE chicken sticks!

I’ll let you know next time how many I really got before the night was over!

02 Feb 2009 Groundhog Day? I Don’t THINK So!
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , ,  | 2 Comments

Ok, well this was just about the most disappointing day of my whole entire Doxie life … yesterday mom told me that today is Groundhog Day … so, what do YOU think that would mean?? I was sure it meant that mom was going to take me outside and help me find a silly groundhog and let me catch it and tear it apart! I could hardly sleep all night just thinking about how much FUN that was going to be. (In fact, I didn’t even get to sleep until about 3:30 this morning and then I didn’t get mom up at the usual 5:00 a.m. but I slept until almost 7 and mom was late to work … that was so funny!)

Anyway, when mom woke up she jumped up and went off to that icky job just like she always does on Monday. I couldn’t believe it! What was going on? Why didn’t I get to go outside and catch a silly groundhog?? Why would it even be called groundhog day if there isn’t a silly groundhog in sight??

So I moped around all day and felt really confused about why there wasn’t a silly groundhog anywhere for me to catch and tear apart! Tonight when mom came home I asked her why I wasn’t allowed to chase a silly groundhog today since it’s Groundhog DAY … mom laughed at me a little bit and then she took me in her lap and told me she was sorry for not explaining it better to me yesterday. She says Groundhog Day is a day that humans use as a barometer for trying to determine how long it will be before spring finally comes again.  Somebody somewhere in some other state called Pencilvainya I think she said, actual humans reach into an actual silly groundhog’s den and pull him out of the den. They do that while the silly groundhog is still sound asleep and not even thinking of waking up yet so I think that silly groundhog must be really, really MAD at those humans. Then they hold that silly groundhog up to the sun and see if any of the humans can see his shadow … well, DUH … of course if you hold something up to the sun, it’s going to cast a shadow! Even Doxies know that! So then when one of the humans comes to the conclusion that they can see the shadow, there’s a BIG announcement that there will be six more weeks of winter! Then everyone in the country goes into a deep depression because they’re so tired of winter and they all want spring to come tomorrow! (Here’s a little hint: On the calendar February 2 is ALWAYS exactly six weeks before spring begins so whether or not the silly groundhog sees his shadow, there will ALWAYS be six more weeks of winter. Humans can be so stoopid sometimes!) They’ve even got a name for the silly groundhog … Mr. Phil or something like that. Mom says there’s a human named Phil at work and she was going to ask him to go outside today to see if she could see HIS shadow and predict that it will be six more weeks before spring … but it was pretty sunny out today so she was pretty sure she’d see his shadow … plus he’s one of the really big bossy people so she thought maybe he wouldn’t even want to play her silly little game.

So after mom explained all that nonsense to me, I sort of understood that I wasn’t going to catch a silly groundhog today and tear it apart. I was still sort of sad but it’s just one of the silly things the humans do to amuse themselves in the winter so I guess it’s ok.

I did explain to mom in no uncertain terms that since I didn’t get to catch a silly groundhog and tear it apart today, she needs to give me an extra big chicken stick that i can grab up off the floor and then tear it apart! So she did … she doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going to get another one before I go to bed!

I’ll bark again soon. Mom says Lola’s updated her blog bark so we’re going to go read that now!

01 Feb 2009 Hunny Bunny and The Stupor Bowl
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: ,  | Leave a Comment

Mom and I have been playing “Throw the Stuffed Squeaky Hunny Bunny” for a long time this morning and finally mom stopped and told me it’s tme to bark in my blark again.  Where does the time go??  In fact, mom says I haven’t been doing very well in keeping my New Year’s resolution to bark more often … I guess I’m a lot like mom that way … she hasn’t been keeping her resolution not to eat this year either! … So there, Mom.  BOL!

Mattie and Pouncer and I are getting cabin fever I think because January was so cold and snowy. It’s almost nice today because the sun is shining and the snow is melting a little bit … Pouncer even wanted to go outside for awhile this morning and mom let her out … and then she forgot about her! I thought that was so funny … That silly cat was outside and mom had forgotten that she was out there in the snow! Pouncer finally came to the patio door and was looking really stupid (mom said she looked pathetic, but I think she just looked stupid) and mom rushed to the door and let her in and told her she was sorry she had left her outside so long. Pouncer didn’t really seem to mind and I don’t think she was really very cold at all. I think she would have come to the door a long time before she did if she was really cold … she just wanted mom to feel sorry for her. Cats are like that you know, very manipulative. Much unlike Doxies who never manipulate anything or anybody at all … I just simply deserve special treatment and mom understands that fully and is willing to provide all the little special amenities and favors for me without question.  It’s such a good life with my mom! Of course she does the same things for Mattie even though Mattie doesn’t seem to expect any special favors. Mattie is just very lucky she found a home that is owned by a Doxie so she gets all the privileges too …

Mom told me that tomorrow is Groundhog Day and I’m so excited! I’m pretty sure that means that I’ll get to catch a silly groundhog and tear it apart! It’s going to be such a good day for me I can’t wait to go to sleep and wake up tomorrow! I hope mom doesn’t have to go to that icky job tomorrow so she can take me outside to find a silly groundhog first thing in the morning … I’ll be sure to bark again tomorrow night and tell you how much fun I had with the silly groundhog and how I tore it apart! I hope Mutchy lets Lola catch a silly groundhog too … I know she wants to tear it apart too!

Mom was also telling me that tonight there is something going on called the Stupor Bowl I think she said. I guess it’s like the Kentucky Derby or the Breeders’ Cup of horse racing, only with football players. I guess it’s a big deal for people who are football fans but it doesn’t sound like there will be chicken sticks involved so I’m not very interested.

Ok, hope everyone has a great rest of the day and a fun night. I’m going to have to tell mom that I need a chicken stick now since I barked … Good luck to all my football friends and may both teams win!
