Scary critter in the grass

Scary critter in the grass

This is the scariest thing I’ve EVER seen and I hope somebody can tell me what it is! You’ll never even believe where we saw this … right by the lake right by our house! I couldn’t even believe that something like this could live this close to me and I’ve never even seen it before. I don’t know what it is and I hope somebody who is reading this can tell me what it is and what its purpose is because from what I saw of it, it’s like totally useless!

Mom and Mattie and I were taking our usual walk down by the lake a few days ago and I was sniffing around the trees trying to find out where the silly squirrels were hiding and Mattie was looking for frogs in the weeds by the lake when suddenly Mattie started barking so loud! I didn’t pay much attention at first because that silly Mattie sometimes starts barking at just nothing … but this time she didn’t stop barking and she sounded very fierce. Mom was looking at the grass by the lake and then she told me to come over and look at what Mattie had found. At first I didn’t see anything and I got really close to it before I even saw it because it was just sitting there and it looked almost like a rock … then it moved its head a little bit and suddenly I saw it even had legs! I started barking and barking and I could feel the hair stand up on my back because I was so excited and I have to admit I was even a little scared! Mattie kept barking too and finally the rock-like thing started moving its legs even more and then it actually started to walk! That made me get really scared and I turned around and ran the other way! Mom was laughing at me and she said she thought I was a lot braver than that … but I was just so scared, MOM! You shouldn’t laugh at me when I’m scared of something! The rock started crawling towards the weeds and suddenly it was gone! Mattie kept wanting to run after it but mom wouldn’t let her get too close to it … (so I’m sure I was right to be scared if mom wouldn’t even let Mattie get up to it) … then I started sniffing the grass where the rock had been sitting and it smelled like nothing I had ever smelled before. I don’t know what that was!  I was still feeling real scared so everytime a leaf or a blade of grass would move, I would just about jump out of my skin … of course that made mom laugh at me even more.  (Big meanie mom)  Mom teased me all night about that walking rock thing and even tonight when I asked her to write in my blark to see if anyone knows what that thing was, she laughed at me again!

So if anybody, human or dog, knows what that critter is, please let me know. I want to look it up in Wikipedia and find out what to do next time I see something like that crawling around in the grass.

(bow) Wow, I just got all worked up again just thinking about that experience, so I’m pretty sure I need a chicken stick to calm my nerves … hurry up, mom, it’s not good for Doxies to have a nervous breakdown!

31 May 2009 Our Fifth Anniversary
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags:  | 2 Comments

Actually our anniversary was way back on May 18th but that lazy mom just didn’t listen to me at all when I told her I wanted to blark about that lucky day in her life … that day when she found me in the parking gargage in the apartment bulding where she lived at the time. (Actually, the way it really happened was that I found HER but she still is saying it the wrong way around… ) I don’t know when mom turned into such a slug that she doesn’t take the time to let me bark in my blark any more … I had to get really serious with her tonight and tell her that I NEED to bark and I need to bark NOW!

I was really proud of mom though on our anniversary day … she took treats to work and some pictures of me and she even wrote a little poem about how much she loves me … I’m going to share all the pictures and the poem with my friends here too so everyone gets to enjoy our special day (even if it is almost two weeks too late) …

And this is the poem mom wrote for me:

It’s Kismet

If you had said five years ago that I would love again, I’d have said you are mistaken, I’ve loved all I can stand.

Though I found her lost and frightened and saved her from the streets, now looking back I realize, it’s she who rescued me.

So here we are together, she’s next to me each night. She slips beneath the blankets and curls up by my side.

As I think how much I love her, and what a good friend she has been … I feel her move beside me, and then she licks my hand.

So that’s the little poem mom wrote for me … I really like it and I wish I could write a poem for HER too because I really do love my mom even if she makes me mad sometimes when she doesn’t always listen to me when I try to tell her something important (like barking in my blark!).

Mom promised me she’d do better from now on and let me bark more often. She’s been doing pretty good on the chicken stick supply lately so I can’t get too mad at her … BOL!

Speaking of chicken sticks … I’m ready to have one right now since I had to bark so much … hurry up, mom. I’m wasting away here … I need a chicken stick to keep my strength up!

10 May 2009 Hiney Flu

Chillin' Out On The Couch
Chillin

I’ll talk about the Hiney Flu in a moment but first do you want see the latest picture of me? Mom took this the other day when I was taking a little nap on the couch and I’d bundled a blanket up to make a little pillow … Of course when I heard her rummaging around getting the camera ready, I opened my eyes a little bit and I thought there might be a tummer rub in the future and got into prime position … then it turned out to be just a big flash in my face … but I DID get a little tummer rub right after that so it was a happy time after all.

Now that you’ve had a few  moments to admire me (and please take all the time you need),  have you guys heard about the Hiney Flu??  It’s been in all the newspapers and all over the TV and I even read about it when I was outside sniffing the grass today. I guess it’s really scary and all the humans are afraid they’ll get the Hiney Flu and mom even said she thought she might have to take a “flucation” from work so she doesn’t catch it from one of her coworkers. I guess it used to be called the Swine Flu until everybody realized that wasn’t a good idea because people started killing innocent piggies who really have nothing to do with the Swine/Hiney (SHiney?)  flu at all.  What’s that mom? It’s not the HINEY Flu?  It’s the H1N1 flu?  Well that looks like it spells Hiney to me so that’s what I’m going to call it so excuuuuuusssssse me for pronouncing words phoenetically …. Personally, I think everybody is overreacting about this Hiney Flu thing. I mean how bad can it be really?  A little flu in the Hiney?? Isn’t that the same as all the other flus out there?  Even I’ve had the Hiney Flu once when I ate something I shouldn’t have. I had the Hiney Flu for one whole day and I didn’t like it all but I got over it and feel just fine now. So I think everybody should get OFF their Hineys and forget about the flu and go back to work doing things that really matter!

Guess where mom took us this past weekend? To a Puppy Playday … mom got us loaded up in our crates and she told me we were going to see Mutchy and Lola so I was really excited about that!. Then we went to the Playday place and we went running in and there was Mutchy! But no Lola! Mr Mutchy had to work at his icky job and Mutchy has to take names (but not kick ass) at the Playday place so there was no one there to take care of Lola while Mutchy was at the desk … so no Lola! There were two other dogs there, Bandit and Gander, and we had a nice room to run around in. Mattie loved it and she ran all over and talked to the other dogs right away and even went through a scary-looking paper tunnel (with the encouragement of a few treats of course … even Mattie doesn’t do something for nothing!) … I thought I needed to protect mom from those other people and those other dogs so I didn’t go and visit anyone for awhile but now and then, when I thought mom was safe, I’d go and say hi to someone. I think mom will take us again sometime and I hope Lola is there next time so we can see her again. Mattie and I really like Lola!
Can anyone guess what I’m thinking?  You got it! Chicken Stick time! I know mom will give me one before bedtime because I did such a good bark tonight! Don’t let that HIney Flu bug get you!

26 Apr 2009 Mom Saw Scooby & Harley Without Us!
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags:  | One Comment

I cannot even believe what happened today … mom went to her human daughter’s house and left Mattie and me at home! I’m distraught! She didn’t even tell us she was going although right before she left she looked at us and asked us if we wanted to go with her or if we wanted to stay home and take naps in her bed … I remember I Iifted up my ears a little bit and looked at her and waited for her to tell us where she was going but she didn’t even say the word “Scooby” … if she had I would have run down the stairs so fast and been waiting at the door to get in the car and go with her! She just looked out the window at the torrential downpout and then said she thought we’d be happier just staying home because it was so rainy and muddy out there. She was gone a few hours — which is like a day in dog time — and when she came back I could smell Scooby and Harley everywhere! Mom took some pictures of Scooby and Harley and I told her that she had to put them on my blark so at least I could see them again and I wanted everybody else to see them too .. so here they are:

Looks like mom only got one picture of my boyfriend Scooby, the Min Pin, and lots of pictures of his little brother, Harly the Chihuahua … wassup with that??  Oh, and then she had to take a picture of one of those stoopid cats that live in the house with my boyfriend.

Mom says this stoopid cat’s name is Sprout and he’s a Himalayan cat. Well geez, mom I could have figured THAT out by myself … just look at this picture, anyone can see that him alayin’ … Sometimes I don’t think mom realizes how smart I really am!

So obviously mom had lots of fun without us today but when she got home she said she was glad we didn’t come along because it was so cold and rainy that we wouldn’t have had any fun anyway … she says we’ll all go down to the farm again when it’s warm and sunny outside. She didn’t even walk through the mud to see her horse Allee today or the little mini donkey Joker because it was so rainy, so we know she’ll go down again sometime soon.  Mom can only go so many days without getting her fix of horse smells — which includes horse poop smells! Yum …

So now it’s almost bedtime and you all know what that means … chicken sticks!  In about ten minutes I’m going to be chowing down so it’s Roger and Out! Kismet has left the blark!

19 Apr 2009 Canine Cocktail Party
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , ,  | 2 Comments

OMD you guys, I just have to tell you what a fun time Mattie and I had last Friday night!

Actually Friday didn’t really start out to be so much fun since it was the day for our annual visit to the Puppy Doctor.  Mattie and I had to have our blood test for Heartworm and then mom told them to give us something new called “Bordatella” which they put right up our nostils. I always stand real still when we go to the Puppy Doctor because I’ve figured out that the more quiet I am, the quicker they’ll let me go back to lay in mom’s arms so I was just as good as I could be but Mattie hates everything about the Puppy Doctor and she was real wiggly as always.  But we finally got done and then we went home and took real long naps because we were so tired from being poked and prodded … we had no idea of the fun time mom had planned for us that night!

Mom took us for a little walk in the afternoon and she was telling us that we going to “go see Lola” … I didn’t know who Lola was but I knew we were going somewhere fun so I did my business real fast and led the way back to the house. Mattie hasn’t quite figured out that when mom says “go see …. ” that something fun is going to happen so she took a little longer but when we got back to the house, mom put the crates in the car and told us to jump in. I thought maybe we were going to see my boyfriend Scooby but mom hadn’t said “Scooby” so I didn’t really know where we were headed. We drove off in a different direction than we usually do so I was sitting in my crate and I kept asking mom where we were going … she just kept telling me that we’d be there soon. When we stopped, I didn’t know where we were but mom let us out of the car and there I saw Lola for the first time! She looks a lot like me except she’s black and tan but she’s really cute just like me so I liked her right away. Mattie liked her too and we were all friends right then! Then we got to go into Lola’s house and Mattie and I ran all around looking at her toys and we got to see where Lola sleeps and everything. Lola has a very nice house and Mattie & I liked visiting her. Lola’s mom and dad, Mutchy and Mr Mutchy, were really nice to us and let us jump on the furniture and look out the windows and I even had to bark a little bit now and then. Then mom gave Lola, Mattie, and me each a chicken stick. I don’t think Lola has ever had a chicken stick before because she grabbed hers with all her teeth and tried to swallow it whole! Mutchy had to open her mouth and take the chicken stick out and cut it into little pieces so Lola wouldn’t choke on it. I’ve never seen anybody eat a chicken stick like that! Even Scooby at least chews it up a little bit before he swallows it … I think Mutchy needs to get Lola chicken sticks all the time now so she’s learns how to eat them!

Then mom moved our crates into the Mutchmobile and we all went for another ride with Mr Mutchy driving. When we stopped this time, we were at a place called Scoopy Poo’s Dog Haus and as soon as I got out of the Mutchmobile, I could tell there were lots of dogs there and I started barking and barking. We went into the Dog Haus and there were other little dogs running around and playing with each other! I’d never seen so many other dogs in one place before! There was even a real BIG dog — mom said it was a Burmese Mountain Dog — and he was just hanging out with the little dogs and having fun with us. Mom took our leashes off and we checked out all the other dog butts and they did the same with us. Mattie and I were in total Meet ‘n Greet mode so we went all over and met everybody … once in awhile I had to let one or the other of the dogs know who was really in charge of the room (that would be ME) but once I got them to move a step or two away from me I turned around with my little smug smile and went off to check out some other doggies. Lola was a little shy and stayed close to Mutchy but once in awhile she came out for a little bit to see what was going on too.  Mom and Mutchy and Mr Mutchy sat in chairs and watched us play and even had a beer so they were having fun too!

Then Mattie and I went to the photography room and a nice lady was there taking pictures of us. I didn’t like standing where she wanted me to stand and Mattie was so wiggly as usual that we weren’t quite as cooperative as mom had hoped we would be for the picture taking. But the nice lady took a few pictures of us and then we went back into the playroom for a little while.  Then mom put our leashes back on and we ran back to the Mutchmobile and got back in our crates for the ride back to Lola’s house. We were really tired and slept most of the way although once in awhile I thought I should be riding on mom’s lap instead of in the crate and I told her so!

We were really happy to get back to our own house that night because we’d had such a big day! We went right to sleep after mom went to bed and didn’t even ask for a Dingo Bone that night. (We still got our usual bedtime chicken stick of course because some things are just too important to forget!) We were even still tired the next day and mom laughed at us because we were sleeping so much!

Mom told us that the pictures that the nice lady took of us are on line now and mom says that ALL of Lola’s pictures look beautiful but there is only one or two of me that she likes and she says there’s one of Mattie who is laughing right at the camera with her eyes closed that is real funny. If she buys any of the pictures I’m going to make her put them on this blark so everyone can see them!

So that was our exciting weekend … I hope we get to go to more playdays with other little dogs sometime and I hope we get to see Lola lots more times too!

Now it’s bedtime and chicken stick time! Everyone have a great week!

Little BoBo and Me

Little BoBo and Me

This is the latest picture mom took of me … My friend Lola sent me another present … A little BoBo!  (Thank Lola for me, Mutchy) I really like the little BoBo but of course my silly mom had to take the picture of me when I was SO BUSY chewing my Dingo Bone that I wasn’t really paying much attention to little BoBo right at the very moment. PLUS she caught me in mid-gnaw so my mouth looks very stoopid. Mom laughs at me but I don’t think she should even have put this picture in my blark! One of these days I’m going to take a picture of mom when she looks stoopid (how about right now, mom … you look pretty stoopid right now I think with flat hair and no makeup and just flopped on the couch … BOL!) and I’m going to put the picture in HER blog so everybody and their dog can laugh at HER for a change!

A little good news: We’ve actually been able to get out for little walks now and then so the days are much more fun now when mom’s home. We’ve been spotting some silly squirrels off in the distance but we haven’t gotten close enough to even chase one yet, let alone catching it and tearing it apart! We did see one run up a tree that was very near us today but by the time we got there the silly squirrel was all the way up in the tree and I swear I could hear it laughing at us! I hate that! But we know where he’s living now so the next time we get out there, we’ll know just where to look for that silly squirrel!

Ok, we’re off to bed and chicken stick land … hurry up, mom. I don’t want you to spend any more time on this post when you’ve got that stoopid picture of me in it!  I’m going to need to bark again real soon and make mom put some nice pictures of me on the blark … I’m Kismet and I’m NOT amused!

22 Mar 2009 Funny Bone
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , ,  | 3 Comments

These are the pictures of me with my Funny Bone. Mom’s friend Mutchy (Lola’s mom) said Lola wanted to give me a present so she decided to give me her Funny Bone. I love it! It’s just my size and it screams when I bite it … I love screaming toys! I played it with on the couch all night when mom gave it to me. I especially liked the scent because it was like Lola was right here with me! I’ve never met Lola but I know I’ll recognize her now when I see her because I have her scent memorized! So thanks for the great present Lola! Mom asked me if I wanted to give Lola a present so I told mom to give Lola that Big BoBo I got for Christmas. It was SO BIG that I didn’t see how I could even play with it … I guess mom thought I was a Great Dane or a Mastiff or something when she bought that huge BoBo. I should never let mom go shopping at PetCo by herself because she obviously doesn’t know how to buy toys that I would play with! I hope Lola can play with the BoBo … mom says she thinks Lola likes bigger toys that she can drag around so this would be perfect for her. I like little toys that I can hold in my mouth and carry around because I like to pretend they’re my puppies and I’m taking care of them like a good mommy.

We’re so happy that the weather is a little nicer now and maybe that icky winter has ended. We’ve been getting out for little walks this weekend and we luv our walks! We haven’t seen many silly squirrels or silly rabbits yet but pretty soon they’ll be everywhere!

So everybody think spring! And chicken sticks! I promise not to step in any mud puddles today mom if you give me a chicken stick right now! I’ve been a good girl all morning so I know I deserve an extra chicken stick today!

Kismet & Bun Bun

Kismet & Bun Bun

Hi everybody! Can you even believe it? Mom took ANOTHER picture of me for my blark!  That’s two times in a row!  This is me with my new favorite toy, Bun Bun. I used to love ‘Roo best but he got so old and chewed up and he doesn’t even scream anymore when I bite his butt so he’s not nearly as much fun as he was when he was new. Bun Bun still screams really loud when I bite him just right. In this picture, I was pretending Bun Bun was my baby puppy and when mom was teasing me about taking my puppy away, I gave her “The Look”.  Mom usually gets the hint right away when I give her that special Doxie glare and leaves my Bun Bun alone!

Guess what else … It was 65 wonderful degrees today and mom took us out for a walk in the muddy mud after she got home from her icky job … that was so much fun! Mattie and I splashed through the mud puddles and ran around in the muddy wet grass … we ran around and sniffed everything in sight and somethings that weren’t in sight at all!  Sniffing the ground is just like reading the newspaper is to humans because we find out all the things that have been happening in our community during the winter!

We even saw some silly squirrels but they were too far away to chase. I scoped out their territory though so when it’s not so muddy, I’m going to make mom take us over there so I can catch one of those silly squirrels and tear it apart!

Mom showed me the new slide show Mutchy helped Lola make and it’s on Lola’s blog. I think it shows off Lola’s sassy side to perfection … everybody needs to go to Lola’s blog right now and watch the little slide show. It makes me proud to be a Doxie just like Lola!

Now I’m going to tell mom it’s time to go to bed because I want my chicken stick!

08 Mar 2009 FINALLY …
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , ,  | 3 Comments

I know you’ve all been wondering why I haven’t barked lately and I’m gonna tell you … it’s because my lazy mom wouldn’t take some new pictues of me. I told her I WAS NOT going to bark in my blark until she took some pictures and I stuck to my Doxie guns. So tonight she got the camera — oh, big deal, mom, it was on the table right next to the couch — and took a couple of pictures of me and even took some of Mattie too.

This is my elegant profile

This is my elegant profile

So this is my favorite one … it shows off my profile to perfection. You can see I was trying to look very poised and sophisticated here and of course that’s exactly how it turned out. I even have a little smile on my Doxie lips because I knew I looked so totally fine … or “fly” as the contemporary saying goes. I’m a Doxie that looks very “fly”. I’m so glad mom got this great shot of me because a few minutes later, when I’d relaxed a little bit and didn’t think she was going to be taking any more pictures — I mean, really, she doesn’t take pictures for three months and then she can’t put the camera away? How could I know she was going to take a few candid shots too — she took some pictures of me that I’m not totally in love with … I think she could have at least warned me that she still had the camera in her hands.

My ho-dog pose

My ho-dog pose

I was thinking I deserved a tummy rub after that great picture she took of me and just as I was getting into prime position for the impending rub-fest, FLASH, there was another picture being taken. I was so unhappy that I almost didn’t let mom rub my tummy after that but then I regained my senses … I mean, I need every tummy rub I can get so I couldn’t let one get away.  Mom laughs at this picture of me and says I look like a ‘ho dog … I don’t know what that even means but I’m sure it’s a great compliment because I AM a Doxie after all … I still think Mutchy’s picture of Lola with her nose in the flower was a lot nicer than the pictures mom took of me but I guess I should just be happy I finally have some new pictures. One of these days when mom’s at her icky job I’m going to call Mutchy myself and tell her I want HER to take some pictures of me.  That’ll show my silly mom!

Mattie & the Ghost Dogs

Mattie & the Ghost Dogs

This is one of the pictures of Mattie that mom took tonight. Mom said Mattie would feel bad if I didn’t let her have a picture in my blark too so I said it was okay. Mattie’s not nearly as cute as I am so I don’t mind if she has a picture in my blark now and then. Mom was really surprised when she saw the picture because it clearly shows the “ghost dogs” mom says are in our house … mom says she’s pretty sure this is conclusive proof that our house has dog spirits living here. She’s going to call the Ghost Dog Whisperer tomorrow and maybe the picture will be on the cover of the National Enquirer soon (because inquiring minds want to know) and we’ll all be very famous. Of course mom says we’ll never forget all the little people who helped us get where we will be soon … rich and famous. I’m going to make sure mom knows that all the credit for our impending fame and riches goes to ME because if I hadn’t insisted mom take pictures of me, she wouldn’t have gotten that once-in-a-lifetime shot of Mattie and the ghost dogs! Once again, it’s a Doxie victory!

So I’m pretty sure I’m owed at least TWO chicken sticks tonight … it’s going to be a very good night!

22 Feb 2009 Weekend Ends
 |  Category: blark  |  Tags: , , ,  | One Comment

I feel so sad that this weekend is already over and mom says she’s getting herself mentally prepared to go to that icky job tomorrow. I like it best when mom just stays home with us all day! We didn’t even get to go outside at all … it was so cold and it snowed so we just had to stay in the house all the time. Mom looked out the window at night when it was snowing and she said it was “snowing like rain.” I don’t know what that means but I was really glad that I could just snuggle under the covers with Mattie and mom and stay warm.

Mom said I should tell my loyal fans (and I know I have a lot of them!) to check out the badge on the top left side of my blark … it’s a badge with a little video and a link to a rescue organization called “A Place To Bark.” This amazing lady from Tennessee is rescuing all kinds of dogs and cats from high-kill shelters and taking care of them until they can go to new homes.  Mom let me watch the video with her and I just about went crazy when I heard all the dogs barking and I could SEE them on the screen but I couldn’t get to them! I kept jumping at the screen and then running around to look behind the computer because I knew those noisy dogs were in the house somewhere, but I could never find them! But I was SO impressed with the video and the help these dogs are getting … you see, I was lost one time too for about a week and I didn’t have anyone to love me and take care of me so I know how sad those dogs and cats were before they were rescued.  I was really lucky that I was able to find and rescue my mom so now I’m always happy and warm and have lots to eat (including chicken sticks!), and I have my step sister Matter and my alleged cousin Pouncer. Some of the pups and kitties at A Place To Bark came from very abusive situations but they all love their new home and they especially love the kind lady who saved them just like I love my mom! There’s even a link so you can send a donation to A Place To Bark if you want to help.

Mom also showed me Lola’s new picture on her blog. Mom says Mutchy took the picture herself and when I saw it I was SO jealous! It’s a lovely picture and I’m sure Lola is so proud of how beautiful she looks. I don’t know why mom doesn’t take pictures of me more often … I can see her camera right now … just sitting on the table beside the couch all ready to go but no pictures being taken, wassup wit dat?? … I’m gonna tell mom that the next time I bark in my blark, she better have a new picture of me! If she doesn’t, I’m going to tell Lola to have Mutchy come and take pictures of me! That’ll teach that lazy mom!

I hope mom’s not so lazy that she forgets our chicken sticks tonight … but I’m not really too worried. Ever since Mattie came to live with us, she’s made it HER job to make sure mom remembers to bring chicken sticks up to bed. While I go up to bed and crawl under the covers, Mattie keeps an eye on mom and follows her around to make sure she doesn’t start up those steps without chicken sticks in hand!  Mattie likes having that job, it makes her feel good that she can do something to help the chicken stick cause, and she really likes it that mom always tells her “thank you” for reminding her to bring them.

Have a great week everyone! Hope you all have your own version of chicken sticks in your life … everyone should be as happy and Mattie and I are when we get those special treats!
